Thursday saw the introduction of the new IBM FlashSystem 5300, a one rack device intended to offer companies of all sizes enterprise-class data services and high availability.

The latest version incorporated AI-based data placement and automation, and the statement mentioned the integration of AI-powered predictive analytics with Storage Insights.

“We took this idea of injecting AI and machine learning down to the hardware layer,” said Scott Baker, vice president of IBM Infrastructure Portfolio product marketing and chief marketing officer (shown, left). “Every one of the computational storage devices in [the 5300], what we refer to as the FlashCore modules themselves, is capable of examining the heuristics of data as it arrives. This is data storage as it will be in the future.

At IBM’s “Future-Ready Storage Redefining Data Center Boundaries” event, Baker spoke with Dave Vellante and John Furrier of theCUBE Research during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. Ivo Koerner (right), chief revenue officer of IBM Storage, joined him and they talked about how the company’s most recent developments will affect the storage experience. (*Disclosure below.)

IBM provides Storage Assurance to optimize spending
Apart from the FlashSystem 5300 announcement, IBM also introduced a Storage Assurance subscription plan that offers regular hardware and software upgrades together with premium Expert Care support. This will enable storage clients to get the most of their money and turn their attention to finding creative solutions, said Koerner.

They are running out of money for innovation, Koerner remarked. We are freeing up innovation funding with the Storage Assurance model, which you can utilize to adopt innovations like AI or to modernize your application environment. You stay up to speed on the newest innovations and technologies with our program, which is its beauty.

IBM emphasized its commitment to satisfying enterprise customer needs in a difficult economic environment while chasing the promise of revolutionary technologies like AI with its release of additional storage capacities with the FlashSystem 5300 and its Assurance model.

“We want to put one box in the data center that meets their workload needs [and] becomes the foundation for adopting future innovation in a non-disruptive way,” added Baker. How to maximize that CapEx spend will always be the main concern. By use of Storage Assurance, IBM is offering clients this kind of option. You will never buy another flash array after you invest in Storage Assurance.
