Mexico City The US government should cease publishing the report assessing the human rights status in many nations, according to Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who deemed it to be an infringement of sovereignty.

“We are independent; it violates the sovereignty of any people, of any country,” Lopez Obrador declared at his daily press conference held at Mexico City’s National Palace.

He questioned, for the fourth time this week, if the US State Department’s report helps fund nations that excel in the human rights arena.

“Has not given us a dollar” in the case of Mexico, declared Lopez Obrador.

He added, “It’s not true that this report has the purpose of seeing who they help and who they don’t, they just don’t help anyone.”

About 200 nations worldwide are evaluated in the US report on their individual, political, civil, and labor rights.
